Product Overview
Optimized video, optimized sensitivity, optimized speed, the Sony Alpha a7S III raises the bar for what a full-frame mirrorless camera is capable of. A revised 12.1MP Exmor R BSI CMOS sensor and updated BIONZ XR image processor offer faster performance, improved noise reduction, and a wider dynamic range, along with UHD 4K 120p video recording and internal 10-bit 4:2:2 sampling.
Video is the primary application of the a7S III, and improvements to the sensor and processor enable faster readout speeds and greatly reduced rolling shutter, along with high-bitrate internal recording, 16-bit raw output via the full-size HDMI port, and flexible control over motion with variable frame rate selection. The a7S III also does away with recording time limits and incorporates HLG for direct HDR production as well as S-Log2/S-Log3 gamma profiles for advanced HDR production with editing.
Imagination in Motion: Taking the S series to a whole new level of full-frame movie expression, spectacular new speed combines with supreme sensitivity and ultra-low noise to put previously impossible 4K movie shoots on the menu, with high dynamic range, breathtaking focusing, and extra-strong image stabilization. Your new creative potential awaits.
Stunning AF performance even at 4K 120p: The new Exmor R full-frame image sensor and revolutionary BIONZ XR image-processing engine deliver always-active pinpoint AF for astonishing detail in both space and time, and stunning 4K movies even at 120 frames per second2 or in slow motion. With the resolution and depth of field only possible from a full-frame sensor, the results are spectacular.
S-CinetoneTM from high-end cinema camera color science: The inclusion of Sony’s acclaimed S-Cinetone look, inherited from the development of the Cinema Line FX9 and CineAlta cameras such as VENICE, allows cinematic color to be achieved directly in-camera. S-Cinetone is optimized for natural skin tones and mid-range colors, with gentle highlight roll-off, for impressive subject depiction without grading at post production as a workflow.
S-Log gamma, S-Gamut3.Cine gamut as on pro camcorders: The S-Log gamma curve and S-Gamut3.Cine color gamut, shared with pro camcorders, provide wider dynamic range and easier color matching for smoother post-production workflows.
Image quality improvements: The new BIONZ XR image processing engine delivers improvements in color reproduction, stability against different light sources, natural tonal gradation and roll-off, and reduced rolling shutter.
16-bit RAW HDMI output: For demanding post-production workflows, 16-bit RAW output8 is available via HDMI connection to compatible external recorders while XAVC HS 4K, XAVC S 4K, or XAVC S-I 4K, and proxy files are simultaneously captured in-camera.
